My building On FIRE!
Our apartment fire alarm is going. The hall has smoke it in. I am on the fourth floor. I can hear the pounding of feet in the hallway. I can't see out but I can hear the fire engines coming. Will they remember I am on the 4th floor. Indy can't go down the stairs. Should I risk the elevator?

gasp gasp (breath in, breath out, slow breath, less adrenaline) - they came in to tell me that one of the people on this floor had left a pot on the element, and the smoke was from that. The Assistant Manager came in to tell me it was okay. The fire department is here I think, I hear much clanking, but the alarm is off. okay, well, that's a way to have a quick cup of coffee full of energy jitters. Oh god, I can smell the smoke through the smoke door and the den door now. I would have been dragging myself out in my nightie soon after smelling that. I didn't last this long to go from smoke inhalation!
OMG!! Glad you're okay! Our local fire department has something to alert them that there's someone elderly/disabled/autistic/etc. who needs help in case of emergency. Does yours have a program like that?
Oh Beth! What a nightmare!
I'm sure glad everything turned out okay!
Blimey! Scary moment. Glad all is ok.
So glad to hear you are OK! Must have been very scary. I got the jitters just reading about it. At least you know the alarm works. Hope you were able to calm down & that the smoke residue has cleared out.
Sharon
Whew.
And someone came in, which means they remembered you.
Only think I could think of, for another occasion: wheel out so that anyone coming by can see you're there. Well, that and ring fire dept. so that they know you're there.
Just grateful that this time it wasn't needful.
I am so glad someone came in. That is a good sign for 'next time' (I hope never) too. so glad you're ok.
Glad to hear you are ok. I had simialr incident and have worked with Seattle Fire Dept. to ensure they know I am was the ONLY person in a wheel chair in my bldg., fire broke out down hall, 4 units away. Smoke everywhere. I was alone. I went into the smoke filled hall and shouted to fire fighters, "Can you help me?!" Finally I was heard and one came to tell me just stay inside apt., fire was contained. BUT, none of them checked the fire alarm box in another part of the huge bldg---plan failure. In the moment, I think we are on our own and must hope for the best. (my neighbors had all evacuated, even those I called friends...)
Damn! You sure know how to get people concerned! I was about to call to make sure everything was OK.
Thanks for letting us know so fast that you didn't become a charcoal brisquet.
And, at least, the assistant manager remembered you!
OH my gawd! scary! My brother just saved 10 people in his apartment complex two days ago in AZ how random. And there was a fire by my house here in cali! I'm so glad everyones okay.
Oh, my, what a scare! And a relief, to know you are OK. Thank you so much for posting that follow up. I was completely freaked out.
Glad to hear you're not crispy. Jeez, what a scary thing to have happen...
That's so scary! I'm so glad you're OK and that the manager thought to come let you know that everything;s OK.
Ask them if they have a box by the front entrance for the Fire Departnent with a list of people who need rescue in case of fire - they have to have that here and I assume your Fire Code would mandate the same.
I agree with the others about making sure you're on a list (possibly multiple lists) that you need assistance in case of a fire.
I hope whatever smoke exposure you did get hasn't messed you up too much! (Since if you could smell it, you were exposed to it)
So glad you are ok.
I put pictures in the next blog, or got Linda to take pictures since I was working on the text for that blog when the fire started. Ah, they find me over the computer.
I will call the fire department and make sure I am on a list if there is one.
the next blog is fun and has many pictures!
