Weekend Fun, to be added

Linda here....

Elizabeth is sick and in bed, and Cheryl is on her way home, please read the post below if you haven't already and as we get more links we will link to all the things people did during their "May Madness" fun weekend.

Thanks. And I hope you had some fun too.

Maggie's Link to photos from the Cemetery on Saturday is
HERE

Tayi at Waiting for Rain, went out, and ended up in pain; pain all over, including a sunburn. But she put up a picture in which she achieved what she has been wanting to do for a while, create art about pain. And in her post titled, Count every beautiful thing we can see, she has a picture: Pain is Beauty.

Saraarts at Moving Right Along, went out to explore a beautiful garden. Her post includes some short movies of her testing out her leg.

Tammy at I Can't Have Anything Nice shares some of her discoveries at local cemeteries near her home. Check it out and give your opinion on her alternate theory to the thirteen graves.

After a little thinking Heather remembered what she used to do for fun. She went shopping, talked to some really interesting folks, got in some reading and ended the day with some beer! Way to go!

Sharonmv is working on a photo collection. Sounds like both work and fun.

Kathz toured a historical millworks village and had fun and learned stuff at the same time.

Neil, among other things, took a workshop on Poi. There's a real adventure - trying something very unusual.

Veralidaine at Stirring the Pot also went to visit a cemetary and shares photos of spring buds.

And FridaWrites went swimming, being careful to keep her brace dry, and to a movie.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and supplying photos if you could.

I'm sorry elizabeth is sick. I hope she's not suffering too much after the big adventure and bad episode yesterday. I was in bed most of today, but rallied for a couple of hours to work on my photo art project. I hope I'll be able to finish it - rather like doing some creative scrapbook pages. So I think you'll like it Linda. Thanks for posting the links.

Dear Elizabeth, please rest well.

Sharon

Get better fast Elizabeth! No fun being sick in the summer!

OMG, probably because I am still trying to catch up reading the last week of posts here, I somehow had no idea that having fun this weekend, esp. with a slightly crazy aspect, was an actual assignment. Lucky for me this is kind of how I live my life, though in a seemingly circumspect, middle-aged, suburban, New England gardening lady kind of way.

You can see pictures of lovely things and also extremely brief footage of me walking downhill in my new artificial leg (which has succeeded in taking all my weight off my girl parts, and which, after a really quite brief adjustment period, also no longer leaves the top of my inner thigh shredded and bloody -- yay) here:

Movie Night!

I think today I shall spend part of the sunlit hours also among the lovely, quiet dead people. Or perhaps I shall spend time walking in the footsteps of dead warriors along the very beautiful and peaceful Battle Road Trail. It is Memorial Day here, after all, and it can be a time to either celebrate war or grieve over the fact that there is still war (depending on one's perspective), or it can be our very own Dia de los Muertos. The dead I remember today and wish to keep in my own life are unknown to me on a personal level and unrelated by blood as far as I know, but feel like family as they spent their lives extolling nature, canoeing and writing beautiful though sometimes tediously verbose things and led impassioned lives full of Big Talk about High Beliefs. I feel an urge to commune with them on some level today, maybe with a picnic.

There may or may not be footage to share later.

Get some good rest, Elizabeth, Linda, and company. And a very merry unbirthday to all of you.

xoxo

Oh dear. I hope that every enjoyable day doesn't end in grotesque adventures.

Thank you for the weekend's challenge, Elizabeth. What I did was not too far out of the ordinary for me, and I was thinking of doing it anyway, but I signed up for the poi workshop partly because of your challenge. And the whole weekend felt a bit different, knowing that we were under orders to enjoy it. All in fun, and in a good way, of course.

Zen hugs, and hopes for a good day today!

Mission accomplished! Spent yesterday afternoon laughing for hours - being around two-year-olds is the shortest way to happiness. Especially when you get to hand them back to their parents when they've hit their limit and start with the cranky!

Naturally, also accomplished semi-injury by editing the video clips (considered it part of the assignment, therefore All Your Fault, Beth!), but it was worth it. Took massive drugs, am a bit better and will attempt to do nothing today. We'll see how long the nothing lasts. Anyone want to start a betting pool? Put me down for 87 minutes...

Sorry to hear Elizabeth is ill! Hope you're feeling better soon.

We have a three-day weekend, so our weekend continues...

The photos all of you took are wonderful (both those on the blog and Maggie's)--I love the sepia. Old cemeteries are the best--the gravestones are so varied, so artistic if you will. The checkerboard-looking grave was a surprise. You guys all look great and like you're having such fun.

I sure hope that Elizabeth gets over this soon. Do you think she picked up a nasty bug while getting all those torturous test done last week?
I will get some of the pics I took, up on my blog by tonight. It just takes forever since I'm still on dial-up. Not too many options for anything much faster, here in the boonies.
I just feel funny putting up pictures of "having fun", when I know Elizabeth is in such a miserable state right now. It seems like every time she tries to have a bit of fun, something has to come along and knock her back down.
Thank you so much for keeping us updated Linda. You are completely amazing yourself!

Linda here...

Elizabeth is still feeling sick - those summer colds never disappear as quickly as we want. She's not feeling up to commenting and adding the links so I'll do it tonight when I'm done at work.

Hope you're all having a great day. Looks like many people heeded the call and went out to have some fun this weekend. Good on you!

Summer colds are no fun. I should know, I have one too! Cheers to our misery.

Linda I hope you manage to avoid getting sick. I'm loving reading about all the fun, thanks for posting the links.

A cold is never fun, and the version running around Regina this time is particularly nasty, and tends to hang on to keep one miserbale for weeks. I pray that's NOT what you have, Elizabeth.

Linda, thank you for keeping us up to date.

Everyone else: thanks to all who rose to Elizabeth's challenge! You all rock!

Get better quicy k, Beth. We are all thinking about you and hoping you feel better very soon.

We went to a BBQ yesterday at the house of one our Beth's friends. Her parents are from Chile and they really know how to make you feel welcome in their home. We were able to stay for about three hours until Michel started to give out. She was falling asleep in the middle of a sentence so I took her home. But it was a nice time and we got to meet a lot of wonderful people. Michel is paying for it today though as she has been asleep since about 2 PM.

Thank you for the update Linda!

The magic cure in my house is a steaming hot cup of peppermint tea. It makes the throat feel better, clears the sinuses, and helps the stomach.

I have some of the pics up on my blog. I left out quite a few. I don't post pictures of my kids. BUT..Linda is right, Elizabeth can get people to do all kinds of things. I put up a picture of myself...which I NEVER do online. It's kinda my paranoia thing. Here is the web addy for ya. http://canthaveanythingnice.blogspot.com/

Feel Better soon Elizabeth, and I hope you don't catch it too Linda! Take care of yourself too.

Linda here...

I'll write a short blog about Elizabeth's health rather than respond to everyone individually on that. I'll pass on everyone's well wishes if she hasn't felt up to reading them herself.

Sharonmv: Looking forward to seeing the art project.

I must admit that Elizabeth added the links. Now I've got to figure out how to add the rest. I think it's just a matter of copying the HTML tags she used earlier in the post.

saraarts: Glad to see you getting around again. Thanks for posting the movies and links. Great choice in music!

Neil: I haven't had a chance to watch the video but Elizabeth did. Poi sounds like a cool thing to do. I've never heard of workshops on the art before.

lene andersen: Little children or baby animals always make me feel better about the world. Well, little children until they start screaming! I miss not being able to see my nieces and nephews grow up.

87 minutes? You planning on any more loooong phone conversations? That should keep you both interested and still. I recommend giving Elizabeth a miss - she doesn't have much of a voice today. Do you have a phone that you don't have to hold so you don't get a cricked neck?

Fridawrites: I wish I knew the story about the tiles plots. We saw several of them yesterday. Seems like an unusual thing to put on top. Maybe it was a fad one year.

Tammy: There are only two ways we can think how Elizabeth contracted her illness: 1) Me as a carrier or 2) our trip to Vancouver on Wednesday. As I'm not aware of any sick work colleagues I'm betting on the hospital or ferry journey. Sure hope it doesn't last long.

Em: I hope you're feeling better soon, too! I'll be drinking more OJ and popping some echinacea the next few days.

Neil: I agree! You guys rock! Thanks for rising to the challenge.

Tom P: Why is it the ones we love always have to pay for any pleasure they reach out for?

Tammy: Great photos. Thanks for posting them. I hope you get some answers to your questions. I'm with you on the paved entrance theory.

My post is up at:

Love the poi spinning, Neil! One of my friends used to spin fire.

Neil said...

Fridawarites: spinning, or in my case, learning to spin, is enjoyable. And I may break down and buy some LED poi, but I'll leave the fire spinning to younger, more limber people. I'm finding the tennis balls in nylon bags hard enough when they hit me in the head, shins, butt, and, um, other places.

Hugs,
Neil

Elizabeth McClung said...

Fridawrites: Thanks for the link. I really like the pics. Do you know the name of the plant?

Neil: I think I'd stick to LED if I were doing it, too. I wouldn't trust myself with fire. I'd end up burning the place down.
