April 1, 2008 Part II Japan: Photos at Nikko Kanaya Hotel

Again a quick group of pictures before we head off to see the shrine maidens.

First from Yesterday, a picture of the JR man.
This hotel, Nikko Kanaya Hotel is amazing, the oldest in Japan, and our room has sliding windows with paper screen and all sorts of retro stuff. One of the names they showed me on the Register: Hellen Keller.

After waking up we went down to the OLD bar, where we saw the picture painted by Frank Lloyd Wright and all these old phones and retro stuff in the Dacite Bar. I got the Kanaya Special which has not only melon but GOLD flake in it, while Linda had a Blue Margarita. It was an amazing experience as we were alone but expected people like Louis Armstrong or Sam from Casablanca to be in the corner. It was that type and time period bar. Just take a look at the box of matches on our table.
An amazing evening in a magical atmosphere, just an hour, but something that truly was worth coming around the world to experience (I hope gold is good for the tum).

Off to the Shrine Maidens!

The drinks alone look magical.

Wow! A hotel previously stayed in by Helen Keller! Did you know this before you made reservations? This has got to be a favorable sign.

Happy Shrine Maiden sighting!

Wow! What an amazing hotel! You realize I'm totally jealous now - just sayin'...

The gold leaf will just move on through your system. Even with your unique physiology it shouldn't be a problem.

Shrine maidens! For the first time in my life I am actually looking forward to seeing a siblings vacation photos...

I never even wanted to go to Japan... well, except for Studio Ghibli, but now, your writing and Linda's pictures are making me want to plan a trip. Helen Keller! Wow.

That looks fantastic! I'm glad you could do something fun so soon after the grueling trip over.

Hey, I will be back to blog about today in a few hours when I wake from the nap Linda is forcing the pillow into my face about (I assume a pillow over the face is for HEALTH?)

So thanks for the comments,
I answered the ones from yesterday.

Yanub: it was a totally magical hour. Ghandi stayed here, I don't think my room, but who knows. Yes, this is the most famous hotel in all Japan for foriegn visitors, Einstein too (sic).

The Maidens, after initial disappointment were incredible - wait till you see the pics.

Cheryl: You should be here, or come here later, or after, just to know what I am talking about. Good news about the gold, I mean the guy was pretty generous about it and after drinking mercury in Grade school....little leery.

Oh yeah, I have the BEST photos - back in a few hours with them!

Marla: It was only yesterday and I wish I was back there having a drink (and could afford another one - it was sort of those, let's do this - it is A VACATION after all golden moments).

Kathz: Cools pics or what, I have a video of him making the drinks I want to post when I have time.

Sarah: thanks - oh, by the way, the monday Mag thing, I mentioned you as my most "local" influential author - just forgot to mention it until I was, say, several thousand miles away. I got a bit, teary eyed and "pinch me" too! So glad to be here AND posting amazing pics! Wait until you see todays!

Em: Yeah, and thier Victorian/Edwardian books make me almost a klepo - it really has been amazing, there in that lounge/bar last night by ourselves around all this history (like drinking in a museum) and today in the North, surrounded by icy and snowy mountains. Welcome to Japan, Elizabeth and Beth Style.

Oh, what fun! I'd half expect to see Porco Rosso there, too.
